Expanding Reach Through Discovery
TROVE is the National Library of Australia’s public catalogue – a central discovery platform connecting people to Australia’s cultural, community, and research collections. When libraries partner with TROVE, their holdings become visible alongside records from hundreds of other institutions, helping people find where to access or borrow items nationally.
For libraries, contributing to TROVE is a powerful way to increase collection discoverability, attract new users, and highlight their role as a cultural and educational resource within the community.

Supporting TROVE Integration in Libero 6
A Libero 6 Library Management System (LMS) provides functionality that allows libraries to contribute to TROVE by being able to share catalogue records and holdings through the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OIA-PMH). This means that libraries with a Libero LMS can automatically expose their metadata for harvesting – without the need for manual data transfers or duplicate cataloguing. To make library collections discoverable through the national catalogue, libraries can establish a TROVE partnership agreement that allows their records to be harvested via Libero 6 LMS.
Key features and benefits
- Improved visibility and engagement: Promote your library’s unique collections, particularly local history collections, to a wider audience. Potential outcomes include increased engagement from historians and genealogists, and recognition of your library’s heritage resources.
- Broaden your profile within Australian libraries: If a user selects an Item in TROVE, it displays all the libraries with this holding. Users can then view the items’ details and availability on the TROVE link to your library’s Discovery front end.
- Automated metadata sharing: Once configured, Libero 6 automatically provides TROVE with the most up to date metadata, reducing manual workload and ensuring consistency.
- Flexible configuration: Libraries can decide which collections to expose and set preferred harvesting frequencies.
- Flexible data formats: Libero 6 supports recognised metadata formats such as (MARCXML and Dublin Core).
User Scenario: From Discovery to Borrowing
A typical TROVE user begins by searching for an author, title, or topic. Among the results they see listings from multiple libraries – including those powered by Libero 6. When they select an item, TROVE displays where it is available, and with one click, the user is redirected to the local library’s Libero Catalogue to view the items’ details, availability, or to place a reservation.
Library Scenario: Local Heritage and Community Archives
A regional library uses Libero 6 to manage its digitised local history photographs and oral history. By enabling the OAI-PMH, these records are harvested by TROVE, allowing users across Australia to discover and cite local content.
Outcome for the Libero 6 library service: Increased engagement from historians and genealogists, and recognition of the library as a key heritage repository.
Why Integration with TROVE Matters?
Integration with TROVE allows libraries to extend the reach of their collections far beyond the library’s physical or digital walls. Through Libero 6’s robust metadata tools and harvesting functionality, libraries can participate fully in Australia’s national discovery platform and share stories, resources, and heritage globally.
As TROVE continues to evolve as the hub of Australian knowledge and culture, Libero 6 provides libraries with a practical and sustainable solution to ensure collections are both visible and valued.
